Kazakhstan 2010 - intercultural and interconfessional dialogues

Augustat – president of the international society “Peace through Culture – Europe” This note was published in the monthly edition “World Spiral” for March, 2010 and at the web-site of “Peace through Culture – Europe” Besides the fact that within the OSCE Kazakhstan aspires to a new, geopolitical world order in the sphere of cooperation and security, it intends to hold in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, in the very heart of Eurasia – a meeting of heads of all 56 countries-members of the OSCE as a culmination moment. According to the words of the president of Kazakhstan, discussion at this summit can include really significant issues of international life, first of all, of building a united architecture of security and other important problems.

Further Kazakhstan offers to include into the agenda of the summit the question of elaboration of the Program of actions on providing interethnic and interconfessional concord. As a secular state with a predominantly Muslim population, Kazakhstan fully understands its particular responsibility for rapprochement of Muslim and Christian civilizations – the East and the West. (on materials of Government publications of Kazakhstan, March 2010) Addition by the editors: in this way the “World Forum of Spiritual Culture” declared earlier by the Government of Kazakhstan supplements with the open in terms of culture aspiration of Kazakh president to establish the primacy of sciences as the supreme level of mutual understanding and concord in the field of culture rendering this all possible assistance. This process should be globally integrated with different confessional and ethnic groups in order to create ethic bases for unity and concord providing peaceful coexistence.
As an exclusive example of common goals and corresponding activity going beyond their limits it should be stressed that Kazakhstan in January, 2010 assigned 50 m dollars for education of students from Afghanistan who must administer with personal responsibility the restoration of their own country. This initiative as a model of genuine cooperation and security can only be welcomed.
